After a three-year hiatus,So You Think You Can Dance returned for its 17th season earlier this summer. The new season brought with it a brand new judges panel featuring  Leah Remini, JoJo Siwa, andSYTYCDalum Stephen Laurel (tWitch) Boss. This is the show's first season without Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, which has been bittersweet for longtime fans who enjoyed what the two brought to the show. However, the fresh faces have helped breathe new life into the long-running competition show.

Season 17 has already reached its top six, which means it's time for the return of the all-stars. Included in this season's lineup of all-star dancers were Amy Yakima, Lex Ishimoto and Bailey Munoz. Seeing the returning all-stars can sometimes make viewers feel nostalgic for seasons past, making this the perfect time to go back to the beginning, check in on the show's first winners and see what they're doing now.

Season 1 - Nick Lazzarini

Seventeen years ago, Nick Lazzarini became the very first winner ofSYTYCD.Those keeping up with the show's long history are probably familiar with the dance company Shaping Sound which was founded by Lazzarini and SYTYCD alumni Travis Wall and Teddy Florance.

Lazzarini is also a founding member of the Evolution Dance Company where he works with even moreSYTYCD alumni. He has spent years making a name for himself as a talented performer, teacher, and choreographer but he is currently under fire for several sexual misconduct allegations involving dancers at events where he participated as an instructor (according to the Associated Press).

Season 2 - Benji Schwimmer

As part of Benji Schwimmer's season 2 winnings, the dancer received a one-year contract with Celine Dion's Las Vegas show "A New Day."  Schwimmer has gone on to work with celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Brad Paisley, Ellen, and Kelly Clarkson. In 2019, Schwimmer choreographed for Quentin Tarantino'sOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood.He is now the co-owner of a dance space called The Dance Center, creates instructional dance content, and has his own podcast, "The Modern Swing Pod."

Season 3 - Sabra Johnson

Sabra Johnson has taken her talents all over the world since becoming the first female winner ofSYTYCD in 2007. Two years after her win, Johnson was in New York performing with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet Company.

By 2010, she was dancing in Mexico City before later being offered a spot in a German ballet company. Johnson has spent over a decade dancing from country to country, teaching classes, and sharing her passion for dance with students all over the world.

Season 4 - Joshua Allen

After his season 4 win, Joshua Allen appeared inFootloose, Step Up 3D, American Horror Story,and several other shows and films. He was also on season 2 ofDance Your Ass Offwhere he participated as a pro. According to Deadline, the hip-hop dancer was sentenced to a year in county jail after pleading no contest to a domestic violence charge in 2017. While Allen has since appeared in commercials, his career as a dancer has been relatively quiet since his release.

Season 5 - Jeanine Mason

Jeanine proved during her show run that she is a wildly talented dancer but her journey after herSYTYCDwin led her to acting. You may recognize her from shows likeBig Time Rush, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Grace and Frankie,orBunheads but her most recognizable role was Dr. Sam Bello onGrey's Anatomy.She is currently starring as Liz Ortecho in the fourth and final season of The CW's Roswell: New Mexico.

Season 6 - Russell Ferguson

Russell Ferguson decided to share his talents after becoming the first krump dancer to win the show and founded Side Street Dancers in Boston, MA. The company specializes in krump, hip hop, contemporary, and street dance styles with Ferguson acting as a teacher. Videos of his choragraphy with the company can be found on YouTube while his Instagram showcases more of the activities he participates in to stay active.

Season 7 - Lauren Froderman

Lauren Froderman has continued her career as a professional dancer since winning in 2010.  She even returned to the show as an all-star and toured withSo You Think You Can Dance Live!Froderman also made history as the first dance athlete for Gatorade. She and her partner, Cryus Spencer (who is a SYTYCD alum as well)Both toured with Excel in Motion, a dance event that encourages young dancers to grow as performers. The two often post TikToks together where they participate in the latest dance challenges and do all the things that cute but not cringey TikTok couples do.

Season 8 - Melanie Moore

After taking home the crown in season 8, Melanie Moore joined SYTYCD alumni Travis Wall and Nick Lazzarini at Shaping Sound Dance Company and appeared inAll the Right Moves! She also stayed close toSYTYCDand appeared as an all-star on the show. It was no surprise when Moore began starring in Broadway shows like "Finding Neverland," "Fiddler on the Roof," and Hello Dolly!" She is actually now on tour with the "To Kill A Mockingbird" Broadway show and can be seen starring as Scout Finch.

Season 9 - Chehon Wespi-Tschopp

Season 9 was the first season of SYTYCDthat featured one male winner and one female winner. The male winner of the season was ballet dancer, Chehon Wespi-Tschopp. After his win, he tried his hand at acting but has not been back in front of the camera since starring inDancin': It's On!

Since then, he has been the creative mind behind seasons ofAmerican Idol and Dancing with the Stars while also branching out to work with celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift. He is currently working on a number of creative projects in LA with his brand I Am Force.

Season 9 - Eliana Girard

Eliana Girard won SYTYCD in 2012 alongside Wespi-Tschopp and had plans to move to New York and continue her dancing career there. She has since danced on tour for Taylor Swift, joined the Sugar and Bruno family as a celebrity designer, and was recently inThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  The dancer stays active on her social media, posting pictures and videos of her dancing skills while also promoting active wear.
