With a latest Windows x (1803+, or 10.0.17063+ for insiders) y'all can unpack a tar annal just like you practice it in linux:

7-zip should work for yous. I believe y'all have to untar the .tar part of the file equally a 2d stride later unzipping the .gz part.

• in 17.01 you can view files inside the tar.gz archive with 2 steps in the gui - just associate the files with your user. Y'all tin can also associate rpm & deb files now.

I employ unproblematic WinRAR extractor to extract .tar.gz file; but do these steps,

1. Get-go extracting the .tar.gz file with WinRAR, it will generate an Intermediate file.
2. Rename that intermediate file as ".tar" and extract it once more with WinRAR.

At present 2d fourth dimension it will excerpt your all files/folders.

The problem is that when seven-zilch uncompresses the tar file into a subdirectory, y'all have to get into the subdirectory in order to uncompress the tar file.

If you've tried to uncompress the subdirectory, information technology won't work of course.

There are ii solutions hither:

1. Employ 'excerpt here', not 'Excerpt files...'.
2. Go into the subdirectory and excerpt from at that place.
